No matter what the present state of internet commerce, it will be HUGE in the future. Think about what is familiar to all of us today: mail order. This is a HUGE business, but one which has a very high cost factor associated with every sale. Imagine what could happen if ISPs start furnishing demographics about your browsing habits to the marketing folks who then present advertising banners to you in your areas of interest. (This is already taking place today.) I recently used Amazon to buy a book. Painless, cost saving way to shop. P.S. How does one send a plain brown wrapper via email? <g>
