There is nothing wrong with extending an olive branch. If it is rejected, that is informational and information is useful.

Extending olive branches to those who have killed your troops and are killing your troops, and plan to kill as many of your people as they can, is supine, and sends a message of negotiating for terms of surrender.

It also sends the message that no help to the people of Lebanon is to be expected from an Obama administration.

Call it what you want, that is the message sent.

The corollary message being, if you want our nicely-nicely administration to win office, please don't attack the US before November 2008.
