Duncan, I'm not up to speed technically on Java, but I've been skeptical of it for historical reasons. Twenty years ago one of my hotshot college professors assured us with absolute certainty that ADA, commisioned by the Defense Department, would be the main programming language of the future. So here I am after all these years, still programming in COBOL. What went wrong? Inertia is hard to overcome, I guess. Here's some recent perspective on the SUNW vs. MSFT fight that gives the nod to MSFT...
