Bill - Re: "AMDs problems with yields hopefully will soon be in the past,"
Yes, yes, yes!
AMD's management hopes that the yields will soon improve as well! Hope springs eternal. Eventually, something good may happen. Eventually.
Meanwhile, the rest of the PC/CPU industry marches on. New fabs are built, new technologies are ramped from R & D to production, but AMD has "hopes".
As for Compaq, why don't you ask Eckhard Pfeiffer how many K5's AMD shipped to Compaq in 1994 and 1995 and 1996?
Also, ask him about the InterWave chips that Compaq designed into their PCs:
(Source - TechWB, November 18, 1996,)
"In yet another sign of its shifting corporate strategy, Advanced Micro Devices Inc. has scrapped its line of audio chips, the company confirmed last week. A source inside AMD said the company jettisoned its audio devices, known as the InterWave family, after discovering the chips were not compatible with an early version of Microsoft's Windows operating system."
AMD has left Compaq dangling in the wind at least twice in the past three years. Compaq owns a bunch of AMD, and maybe they'll try a third time just to protect their investment!
