Jules, my questions were sort of leading...
Two points that IMHO are important into the 3rd and 4th quarter:
1. I beleive a consumer and corporate upgrade cycle are long overdue, and are in process.
2. It seems to me (please correct me if I'm wrong) that the R&D costs associated with the Pentium should have been pretty much fully expensed at this point, allowing for increased margin on revenue. If reveues do indeed increase in the current and coming quarter, they should be very profitable.
Jules, John Hull, Paul Engle and All,
Did anyone read todays Wall Street Journal article ("Corporate Focus section) about Intel. It was pretty negative, I guess to summarize:
Intel has always copied and "Miniaturized" other mainframe manufacturer's technology for the PC, and has never really done any "original" research. That their current archetecture has "hit a wall" and "there's nothing left to copy". As a result, they are starting a lab to do original research, but it will be underfunded at "a few million dollars".
I'd like to hear responses (especially Paul E.) to this. WSJ, for some unknown reason, is very seldom positive in it's articles about Intel, in fact I can't remember the last positive article they printed. Still, it's an interesting perspective on the future of Intel and one I hadn't heard before.
John
