Trial lawyers defend individuals from big corporations. The GOP attacks on trial lawyers, which is really attacking a citizen's right to sue big corporations, is a big fat lie. The frivolous lawsuits they point to (if they truly are frivolous) get thrown out of court. Only the cases with real merit make it to trial.

I owe my financial livlihood to one time when a huge corporation stole my patent and made 200 million dollars on it. If I had not been allowed to sue, as the rightwing wants, the corporation would have gotten away with it completely. As it is already, it is so difficult for an individual to sue a big corp. I had to invest everything in a lawsuit, and still they used an army of lawyers to tangle me up in technicalities to force me to settle for ten cents on the dollar. Plus they have liability insurance and individuals do not.

If you are for taking away the rights of individuals to sue corporations when they are damaged by such corporations you deserve to be maimed in an accident caused by product failure, then you can feel what it's like. How'd you like to end up in a wheelchair as a quadriplegic and be unable to sue the manufacturer of the product that made you a vegetable? That is the American you envision, one where corporations have all the rights and money, and the people almost nothing.

PS: When Tom Delay's father was mortally wounded due to product failure he immediately hired a trial lawyer and went after them. He won a settlement. So the rightwing are individual hypocrites on this issue 100%, as they are on most issues.
