Thanks Kumar...I know you and I aren't the only ones who feel this way - there are hundreds more. I thought PC was a bit mentally off - since he would brag about how he did all sorts of
dangerous things like jumping out of a car or off a motorcycle at
100 MPH (I forget which)...I could handle his bragging about his
extreme skiing -- that wasn't too wierd - but doing things at 100 MPH?? My take is that he was a control and power freak - with very little understanding of what kind of corporate culture is required to
run a good company. To say the culture was dysfunctional is an understatement. Anyway - no need discussing the past anymore..
I'd only give my expertise to Verity or another text retrieval company if they
agreed to royalties up-front in writing - where I'd get one mill for each million they sold...Still a win/win deal..Hey - it's a mill they
wouldn't have had before..(I've provided intermittant consulting to companies such as Fucrum & Excalibur etc. - but their technology wasn't as advanced as I'd like in terms of the impact I could make..) We shall see if the culture changes enough..
Until a "do unto others as they would have you do unto you" culture exists - even if they offered me the above - I wouldn't do it - as I do not believe in companies that have poor ethics or exploit their people. The money doesn't matter - it is doing the "right" thing
that matters (to employees and customers -- Verity did neither..), and making a positive difference on this planeet - vs. a negative one. (I don't believe that when I was there I saw one person do any volunteer work...they were all into things for just the buck - though now i see that they have a gratuitous posting on the home page for something - probably in response to "I've never seen the company be a contributor to the community/public good" perhaps..
