But if Obama only does more of the same, won't he get trapped up there at 30,000 feet, floating on his platitudes, the blank screen onto which all project their desires? How does he go on from here? Can he keep up the same schtick until November?

I think he will route McCain in one of the biggest victories for a non-encumbent. After years and years of fear mongering and low government approval ratings and the impression that the US is no longer the bastion of freedom admired around the world, people want a leader that makes them feel good and proud and projects hope. And I think the youth/change versus age/same old, same old thing will play into his hands tremendously. And the idea of the American dream of equality of man versus the old white man works in his favor as well. He's also got the self made man thing going for him. The list goes on.....

Policy wonks might not like him, but they are probably less than 1% of the electorate. The general public will love him.
