The point isn't to avoid $90/month after I retire. Its to avoid the large percentage of my income going to the government before I retire. If I can do that, I can save it and cover myself. The income from investments will serve me better than the SS retirement income, and I'll have enough left over to buy insurance for myself, or to mostly self insure (with a high deductible catastrophic insurance plan to cover major unpredictable expenses). Saving $90/month after retirement doesn't get me much.
