John Kerry (D-Mass.), Joseph Biden (D-Del.) and Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.) were uninjured in an emergency landing that became necessary during a helicopter flight Thursday afternoon in Afghanistan. Biden spokeswoman Elizabeth Alexander said the senators were flying in a snowstorm when the landing became necessary. There were no injuries, and the trio was taken to Bagram Air Force Base, which is where they were headed. “They’re fine, it was just an unscheduled landing,” Alexander said. The senators are visiting Pakistan, Afghanistan, India and Turkey on a trip to observe parliamentary elections in Pakistan and visit U.S. troops in Afghanistan. They are also meeting with leaders in the countries. Kerry is chairman of the Senate’s Near East and South Asia subcommittee, while Biden chairs the Committee on Foreign Relations, of which Hagel is also a member.
