In fact, scientists are always looking for great ideas that others somehow have overlooked, in the hopes of getting fame, if not fortune. Thats how it works.

Oh.. it might work that way for scientists who are independently wealthy and have their own self-financed personal laboratories.

But the rest of them have to rely upon financial grants and approval for lab facilities from governmental and corporate institutions in order to conduct their research.

And for them to obtain that funding, they primarily have to focus on the areas of research that the institution has established already (and obtained grants and funding of their own to establish).

And if your research happens to conflict with, or divert from, those areas, guess who's going to be last to be funded?

That REALLY how it works..
