To sell Cable internet connection, several background development of computer software had to be kept in mind. Microsoft is now the virtual administrator of all their customers. One is the bios adjustment of Microsoft operating system(year 2001), which can keep your computer running cpus and drams error free for more years free of maintenance. Software is also maintained every time you boot by scandisk if needed. All components such as hdd(scandisk), and not yet dvd(speeds) and flash cards(temperature maintenance) are maintained by software to operate error free. Microsoft requires all operating systems to be auto-updated by Redmond thru ISP servers on connection. It may require 160 mbps to do it quickly for all the slow computer installed base. I still use dialup modem and takes hours and Microsoft compressed data to update my WinME. Microsoft puts their update data on ISP servers(.net strategy) and automatically fixes all their operating systems, and maintains your computer health by running it in optimum conditions, never overheated or run it too hard. So, internet conditions had to cooperate with Microsoft software requirements to service their billions of customers.
