However, for a "Freedom Loving Conservative" to suggest that democratically elected governments can not change policies that are economically disastrous is logically bizarre.

Nothing bizarre about it at all when you're voting on taxpayer paid benefits but fewer than half pay income tax. Do you really think that free riders would vote to repeal their benefits, no matter how expensive they become?
