On Charlie Rose last night, one of McCain's flacks said the campaign would do a 36 hour response to this and then go on to other issues. He was trying to make it seem like any letter or contact with the FCC was some kind of commonplace matter although the head (I think it was) of the FCC at the time said it was highly unusual.

The McCain flack said that was simply a partisan statement by the then head of the FCC. I don't remember the particulars but I thought the 36-hour clock was just funny. It sounded like some kind of royal decree from the McCain campaign.

This thing got the press' attention because of the romance angle but it seems much more interesting under the covers.
