I agree that Webb is good fit in many ways, and personally, I wouldn't be disappointed with him as VP. I can just see the "green around the ears" criticism coming from the Republicans. Of course there are worse criticisms, and it may be that in this election, that will turn out to be an asset.
I wouldn't like to see either Nunn or Cleland. If Bob Graham were 5-7 years younger, he might have been a good choice (Kerry would have won, IMHO, if he had chosen Graham to be his VP--FWIW--Graham could have won FL, and you probably would never have heard of Mel Martinez). But he isn't, so that's just a pipe dream.
I don't know who would be good. I like Bob Kerrey a lot, but he is running for the Senate (I think he is, anyway), and is probably the only Democrat who could win in Nebraska. The other guy from VA, Warner, might be a good choice, but foreign policy would be a question again. I liked Tony Zinni a lot, but he doesn't bring a state with him, and I don't know his domestic policy position.
So those are my thoughts off the top of my head for now.... |
