He also ordered the attack on 17,000 "bonus march" veterans of WWI, which did a lot to build morale in the armed forces. General MacArthur sent Major Patton in to beat up, rout and kill American veterans and their families. Eisenhower was on Dugout Doug's staff and was the only officer to disagree with the decision to attack American heroes.
