Do you know what the definition of "species" is?

It means the two groups don't interbreed. And the reason why they don't could be they aren't inter fertile, they don't have the same mating calls, etc. or there is some physical obstruction. Like, for example, there is one species of ground squirrel on one side of the Grand Canyon, and another on the other side.

The reason why this is important is that when you keep two or more groups separate, there is genetic drift.
