I've never seen wind power as a serious source of energy. I may start changing my mind.

You definitely should change your mind about it--it could provide an even quicker boost to our energy needs than solar, if enough investment is actually made in it, especially in storage and transmission infrastructure. TX and the Dakotas are all ideal places for it, and the land that the turbines would be on is for the most part not used for much today. There are fewer technical issues with developing cheap wind energy than any other form of alternative energy (or at least, such is my admittedly still incomplete understanding), and it would be even cheaper than nuclear to set it up.

But there has to be the political will for it to happen. And people will have to stop repeating mindlessly "It is only practical with subsidies," since virtually all of our energy today gets subsidized. It is most definitely superior to corn ethanol, or for that matter any form of ethanol.

Personally, I love the way those turbines look. But then, I was always a fan of Don Quixote....
