The why is because there are significant numbers of hate-filled people, many of whom feel disenfranchised and direct blame from themselves onto others.

Sometimes I think most Christians don't even know their own scriptures. They don't read for themselves, other than highlighted, truncated passages.

There must be a gazillion new testament scriptures that command us to love one another. There are none that command us to judge one another.

Judgment and vengeance are reserved for God. The scriptures are quite specific and plain-spoken on the matter. In fact, there are many that serve as warnings to us about pre-judging......such as, 'the first shall be last' at the end of times, or 'the meek shall inherit the earth' and 'blessed are the peacemakers'.

I live among evangelicals. They're well-intentioned people as a group, but their focus of attention is a little bizarre, IMO.
