Julia Gillard does have a slightly more ocker accent than most urban Australians. Though not comical like the late Steve Irwin's back of Bourke ocker-fest. youtube.com When I'm in Australia I can easily adapt my speech to different regional Australian accents. But the New Zealand accent is a complete puzzlement to me. At times I even have difficulty understanding people. Many Kiwis seem to swallow the end of words. youtube.com Then there's the wierd fake-posh Melbourne "aspiring-to-success-but-don't-know-any-better" accent practiced by the actors on the popular "Kath & Kim" show. youtube.com .
