It doesn't look like a major breakthrough to me. Qimonda will move to 65nm 6F^2 DRAM in 2nd half 2008. Micron, Elpida, and Samsung are already at 6F^2 while Qimonda is presently producing at 8F^2.

Using buried wordline technology reduces current and power by 28% to 30% compared to the competition but for many applications the consumer doesn't care. It may matter to some people. Small breakthrough, not a major breakthrough.

Qimonda has a roadmap leading to 4F^2 several years from now but so do other manufacturers such as Elpida and Samsung.
