Avastin is a black border drug......it was learned a year or so ago that it can cause perforation of the gastrointestinal tract and death. It was being used only for cancer colon. FDA approval for breast cancer treatment was disapproved until 4 days ago, 2-22-08. Since your story was about a patient trying to get it in December, I think she would not have gotten it here either. Our insurance companies often refuse to pay even if it does have FDA approval.....I've had such an experience.
