East meets west. <`This is a 360 degree budget, the first that actually benefits everybody,' said Agnes Chan, a partner at Ernst & Young Tax Services Ltd. in Hong Kong. ``Who won't be unhappy? The government has enough to spare.' >

Agnes was my maternal grandmother, who reminds me of Emily [one of our daughters]. Emily's betrothed is Aaron Chan. If she adopts his name, then she'll be Emily Chan. I saw somebody called that on CNBC yesterday. Here's a sample of her: youtube.com Agnes's mother was Emily Bongard.

There seem to be too many of Chan, Chen, Agnes and Emily.

How come there are so many Chens and Chans? There are lots of Smiths because there were swarms of horses and black-smiths, aka smithies. There are, of course, not many Winns because only one can win.

Gee, Hong Kong is going socialist: <
Tsang will also inject HK$1,800 into every residential electricity account in the city, to ease the impact of rising power costs on low-income households. CLP Holdings Ltd. and Hong Kong Electric Holdings Ltd. supply power to most of the city.
>

Big Ben and Congress could do that too. Put $300 in all electrical accounts in the USA for 3 months.

And what's the hotel room tax? We don't have such a thing in NZ. Are you sure Hong Kong is as tax-free as you say?
