[edited 3.] @TG - SFUN Interesting point. As you know, I'm from germany, where we have other tax systems. I had such an environment a while ago - I can't remember which stock this was. I handled it tax wise.
- Bought the takeover corp. for e.g. 10.000 - got after the deal new shares + money - lets assume I instantly sold the new shares for 7000 and got 4000 extra cash
=> Bought for 10.000 and sold for 11.000 => I paid taxes on that 1.000 gain. The tax rate depends on your personal tax rate here in germany, could be as high as near 50% for these short term moves, but a gain is a gain. I will do it the same way here. When I get the SPSN shares, I will sell it (which I expect others will do as well -> pressure, but I will leave my existing SPSN shares of course in house) and book the overall gain (hopefully ;) ) for the state taxes. For me, I have some extra risk => EUR/USD crossrate, but I can live with that.
edit: This anticipation could also be the reason, why SPSN is so weak. Just look, some 30Mio. SFUN shares will be converted in over 20Mio. new SPSN shares. I assume, that some people will hold these "new" SPSN shares, but some will (as I will do) these extra shares. If 1-2Mio. new SPSN has to be sold, this will do pressure for a while of course -> probably the best opportunity if you want to have SPSN shares or via SFUN now.
edit2: interesting, that Deutsche Bank now holds 9% of SFUN. ccbn.10kwizard.com
edit3: BTW: incredible low volume in SFUN -> seems like all important actions are done.
