Of course in WWII we had less than half as many people and a lot less money (even in real dollars) per person.

The portion of the economy being spent now is apparently slightly less than what we spent during the Gulf War, and much less than in any previous war of any size at least since The Civil War. (If anyone really cares, which I doubt, I could try to look up/figure out the figures for the War of 1812, and the Revolutionary War)

The Civil War, WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War, and the current war would count. Conflicts like Grenada would not (although at the time we were spending a larger percentage of GDP on the military)
