Ambrose was accused of plagiarism, taking parts of other people's books and using their passages. What I believe L'Amour did, from reading his books, was buy novels from others and publish them as his.

I think this because I would start reading a novel of his and find the writing was totally different from his. And better. :>)

Tom Clancy uses collaborators openly to write a lot of his pulp fiction. A couple of other "Name" novelists are doing this also. Taking advantage of their "Name Brand" to sell more books.
