The current instability in the Middle East is a product of a calculated policy to weaken the region after the breakup of the Ottoman empire. Are you kidding? The current instability of the ME is the result of the breakup of the Ottoman empire, which ruthlessly suppressed "instability" via techniques like genocide. For thousands of years, the ME has either been controlled by a brutal empire or has been filled with wars and instability. Even so most fractionalized regions of the world eventually manage to resort themselves into stable and functioning regions (i.e Italy, Central Europe, Took them a century and a couple world wars. Take a look at the Balkans - they still may not be there.
