thats a farce Hawkmoon. To claim gold has some sort of definative use in anything people use today is just silly. Yes it has SOME industrial uses, mostly legacy from when gold was cheap (likely to be replaced soon). GOLD is not a valued commodity the world relies on in the same sense as say, energy staples. Its just another metal, and not all that unique of one. Many don't even classify it as a precious metal. Gold's lure comes from the obsolete gold standard, thats about it.
