jeremic: I've also heard these rumors. Can anyone provide a step-by-step argument on why they think Alcatel is going to win the BC contract. The argument is they have DMT now. Forget that Bell Canada owns +50% of Nortel, forget they trialed 1.5Mbps, then 2.1Mbps Westell systems, forget they were just up in Canada with Nortel at the Canadian Business Telecommunications Alliance (CBTA) conference in September, forget Nortel is pushing QAM, forget BC's web site indicates that CAP may become a standard, forget 4 other Canadian Telco's are going with CAP.

Then I see the reason from Alex Brown... because "of Westell's lack of an immediate DMT solution". Alex Brown states, "all indications were that Alcatel had beat out Westell". I see one indication, Westell isn't going to have a deployable DMT solution until 1Q-2Q98. I don't view a single point as "all indications".

If Bell Canada does select Alcatel because of that single point, I'll look straight at MOT and thank them. Then I'll ask why the merger wasn't done 6 months ago with Amati. If Westell understands what it's customers want, they will win the Bell Canada contract. If they don't, it's a major failure on understanding your customers needs.... until later.
