read somewhere recently that Obama bristles at the "multi-racial" label
That seems odd in itself. What else could he be? I thought it was great that he was both white and black. It seemed somehow the perfect statement! Does he "renounce" his whiteness? :)

Speaking of his church-- it seems to be giving some of my evangelical friends pause. I went to the site to read about their mission. There's certainly no question about it being Afro-centric.
I think what was making them nervous was that the church states they are first and foremost
........... a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian... Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain "true to our native land," the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community.

It's probably the same concern some have about the Jewish politician. Which is he first- an American or a Jew?
