Perhaps we'll do Baltimore as a base of operation, then head out to Harper's Ferry and other sites south of DC.

The Baltimore harbor renaissance is well worth a visit.

Civil War sites in that area that stand out in my mind:

Harpers Ferry - still looks like the wartime photos.

Spotsylvania - The Angle, where small arms fire literally felled a fair-sized oak.

Fredericksburg - The Stone Wall.

Bull Run - Henry House Hill.
