I guess Boeings design price was that bad.

Could be but I don't think so:

"At the Pentagon news conference, Air Force acquisitions chief Sue Payton said categorically that the creation of jobs in the United States was not a factor in the decision."

And while jobs were not a big deal, the planes will still look to be red blooded American:

"Gen. Arthur Lichte, head of the Air Mobility Command, insisted at the news conference that "this is an American tanker. Flown by American airmen."

"It'll have a great big American flag on the tail," he said."


I mean what America does best is build "lean, mean fighting machines" and now we're giving the business to foreigners just as the economy is falling apart. Given the last 7 years, that move makes perfectly good sense!
