I'm researching commercial real estate to try to determine whether shorting REITs makes sense. It seems to (at the right price point). By their nature(no equity, debt supporting assets with rapidly declining value, low cap rates on recent transactions and basically a 50% increase in CRE from 05 to 07), I don't really see how the REITs can survive the downturn that is coming. Comments, anyone? oh yeah web.mit.edu
