By "the left", I didn't mean all of the left, just as by talking about those on the right who supported Pinochet I don't mean all of the right.
But there certainly where people on the left, in western countries, including the US, who supported Castro, Che (who wasn't directly a dictator, but helped put dictators in power, and was a violent, bigoted, communist) Ho Chi Minh, Mao, and Stalin (for the last see Walter Duranty's stories for the New York Times, during the man made famine in the USSR).
Such support is less common now, and more likely to be found only on the fringes, but it still exists to a lesser extent. |
