I think the film has been made to scare the living bajeezes out of us.
And so it should.
My readings on bio-fuels and ethanol fuels suggest that these are both poor replacements, due to all the environmental and social outfall they would create if pursued on a large scale.
Personally it is my belief that humanity must look to electricity for the bulk of our future oil replacement energy needs.
Yes their is a place for some ethanols and biofuels, but trying to make too much out of it won't work.
Also using corn and wheat to produce ethanol could not be coming at a worse time. Those industries are already under a lot of pressure from the rest of the developing world. Already the price of wheat and corn has skyrocketed and we are just getting started with this ethanol industry.
You don't have to look to far and you will find a huge library of information showing the failure of ethanol.
Electricity is the way to go.

Solar, Geothermal, Hydro and Wind; these three systems are enough to solve the whole problem coming.
