The government has been providing healthcare coverage for the poor and the elderly, yes. But in what way has that had the effect of distorting the market to increase healthcare costs overall?

Also, I made the statement that it's ridiculous to believe that "the market" will reduce healthcare costs. You are now arguing that it might not reduce costs, but it will "handle" them. Does that mean that you agree that the market won't reduce costs?

You speak of things like Lasik surgery, which is not covered by health insurance, public or private, and you say that costs have been contained. I'd say that what has happened is that only the affluent have gotten the Lasik surgery. The market has made it less available, but not really more affordable.
