BTW do you think that trade has hurt, helped, or been neutral for Americans? To be honest, I don't have a clue. Regarding making the world a better place via reduction in tension between countries, I think it is solidly a success. Regarding the nearer term impact on any given individuals quality of life, I don't know, nor the overall impact on America in the timespan of a few decades. What I would love to find is anything in economics remotely similar to the following graph from climate science, with remotely similar accuracy: Unfortunately, I've never found any.
