Sorry, I should have said gas. My other referances was talking about actual out of the wallet expenses. Even commodity prices of Crude oil isn't really the price of oil, it is not 100% reflective of the finished price of oil products.

I don't recall many gas lines during the early 70's. There may have been some shortages in areas, but mostly that resulted in only price increases in most parts of the country. It was Jimmy Carter inflaming the Mideast that caused many mideast countries to turn off the tap almost completly in the late 70's that caused the really long gas lines. I think gas lines were common though out the country, even in rural areas then.
