Same reason I don't Hugh. The Toyotas are better cars and cost tens of thousands of dollars LESS MONEY.
But not as good as a Lexus or BMW or Mercedes.
and did so for well over 100,000 miles without burning oil"
I've got news for you Hugh. If you maintain a Jap car, you get 250,000 on the original engine EASILY. Even an OLD Jap car. I've got two now, both with over 200,000 on them.
I said from the start I have had a Toyota, it was a very good car. No problems, but it did burn some oil when I got rid of it at 110,000 miles. The Buick didn't. My Dodge truck has 90,000 no problems except ball joints, but it is starting to burn oil around the valve guides. That old Buick has almost 150,000 miles on it I think, but did have a few minor problems on the way, but was above average of all of my vehicles. Longivity and reliability are not the same thing. A friends Chevy truck had 350,000 miles on the original engine with no overhaul before it was totaled. He said it had some realibility problems the first 100,000 miles but eventually replaced all major accesories, starter, accelerator, wiper motor etc, and it was very relabile after that. The Toyota only had one problem, the fifth gear went out on it. My two most reliable cars were that Toyota and a Dodge Grand Caravan. Had a Taurus with a few problems though. Had a Mazda with a few problems also, and that was a pre Ford Mazda.
