"I think Media-Flo should scrap the middlemen and offer the service ala-carte on their own. We dont need the service providers"

To the extent phones sold in the US are spec'd, ordered and controled by the US carriers, the carriers are an essential part of MediaFLO USA's distribution model (unlike Europe where 40% of all handsets are spec'd, ordered and sold through Carphone wherehouse). As a result, the US carriers have a death grip on MediaFLO USA and they are doing a lacklusted job of pricing and marketing the service. However, that may change once QCOM brings to market personal media players (PMP's) and USB dongles which will turn any 3G phone into a MediaFLO enabled phone. These will be sold directly by MediaFLO USA, through existing retain outlets and should start to break the carriers death grip.
