'i have tried many times to imagine a scenario via rate cuts and 'stimulus' packages that would avert a (needed) recession and i just don't see it'

it sure won't end the housing bust anytime soon or stimulate a burst in new home construction till perhaps the middle of the next decade but will probably help stimulate business activity almost everywhere else and support existing home values soon..think what happened by 2003 in everything else but telecom which was in a deep depression for a very long time and it can argued many companies are still in a funk even today
