I'm more interested in being logged in the archives of humans who read my stuff. My sister, the one with the cat, has self-published, and she likes it because you don't have to split with the publisher. However, you do have to do your own selling.

My stuff is regional genre, so it might work to get started. I know where I'd try to get bookstores and coffee shops lined up, but it's a pretty large territory.

If a mainstream publisher does not buy it, then I may take your suggestion.

I see Mark Twain self-published. Perhaps I should think about it harder. Twain's philosophy is central to my subject, a historical event that's been done dozens of times as non-fiction but never as fiction. I can't tell you what it is because then you'd do it and beat me out of my place in line.

Twain said: "To arrive at a just estimate of a renowned man's character one must judge it by the standards of his time, not ours." I use this quote in my text.

Now, since we have come full circle and I have to let the dog back in (it's 4:30 am), I gotta say good night, my friend.

You remember what started all this, don't you? My objection to revisionism, the non-fatal strain of the Poet Pox, and the very thing Twain advised against.
