Advice From MMe Mao:
Message 24373710

So if we keep our for profit system, the pressure will be to cut costs- by restricting service (boards allowing only certain procedures and drugs, but not others- for all patients, regardless of what the doctor wants), or giving poorer products (as we've seen in off shore dental labs, or lab techs in foreign countries), or to raise premiums, to increase profits- or do both at the same time, as HMO's do (and aren't THEY just a bundle of fun!).
Gov'ts, of course NEVER try to cut costs. Except when they do (because they are forced to, of course). The change between a private and public system is YOU have no say about where the cuts are made in a private system. The politicos may make targeted cuts or across-the-board cuts (such as in CA right now). In a private system, you can decide to keep your medical expenditures at the same level and cut back on trips to Six Flags with the kids. Any pretense that politicians have our best interests at heart is just that- - pretense. And who said one size fits all anyway?
Profit systems almost never give you the best product at the best price- not for long, anyway, so for a system you'd like to have stay stable and accessible to people, I think you have to go to socialization.

A private business attempts to MAXIMIZE its profit, just like your hubby should attempt ot MAXIMIZE hus salary, particularly since you refuse to work. Maximizing profit is NOT the same as charging high prices. It is charging BEST prices. The volume of sales also impacts the bottom line. If you fail to understand that, you understand nothing of how the system you live in works. Try
P = V*(p-c)
where P = profit
..... V = volume of sales
..... p = your sales price
..... c = your cost
Now roughly and approximately, V varies as 1/p. You don't maximize profits by charging ridiculous prices. If you charge $1,000,000, you won't sell any apples.

People like the prestige of working for the big government labs.
People liked the prestige of working for Bell Labs, too. Did you know that? And Bell Labs never designed nukes.

If you look at food, what capitalism gets you is the crappiest product companies can get away with, for which they can either generate demand, or trick the consumer in to buying using false claims, or heavy advertising. The health claims companies make are ludicrous. Look at the boxes of sticky "fruit" snacks- the ones that rot kids teeth worse than candy, since they stick to the teeth. The ones that often have almost no fruit. Capitalism is a lot of things, but responsible, it's not.
So now you LIKE gov't? Really? Think about the last 8 years. Did you enjoy them?
You probably think the 8 years before that was wonderful. That simply illustrates your blindness.

I think you have to go to socialization.
Go. Be gone. North Korea awaits you.
