I had the same experience in So. Calif. I went to Robinson - Mays Dept. Store, who advertises the things (not Toms), and they had plenty of other Nano Pets and Gigas, but no Tomagotchis. I am still looking for one to buy for my daughter. You really have to go out of your way here and search for them to buy an actual Tomagotchi. My daughter doesn't seem to know the difference between Toms and the others, but I wonder if the other kids, especially the older ones do.

Kirk, did you read the Verge article on them?
