I didn't think you were- I just thought you had a rather strange idea of what I was talking about. I wasn't suggesting Let Them Eat Foie Gras- I was suggesting government get in the business of pushing whole grains and vegetables rather than sugar (for example). And if it makes it harder for me to get what I want, that's fine- I'm willing to share the wealth. I don't want to be the only one to profit from healthy eating- not even if that kind of selfishness makes it relatively easy for me to get what I want. I'm pretty flexible about what suits me. I'd like to see the kids in America eating better. I saw a poster on another board suggest "Darwin" would take care of it- I'm just not comfortable with that when it comes to my fellow Americans. I don't want them to end their days suffering from the effects of multiple diet related illnesses- not when we really haven't even tried to get the government involved in health. Now I don't want a food gestapo- I just want something more in line with enlightened public health practices.

Would such attempts to fix the problem always work? No. But it's a heck of a lot better than telling someone "Darwinism" will cure a problem like this. Firstly, survival of the fittest means you're counting on extermination to cure the problem, and secondly, death has to occur before breeding- and that just doesn't happen with this problem.
