Medicare - my mom has been a major recipient the last nine months, and it is an amazing system when you need major hospitalization and associated treatment.

Before they needed major care, my parents both struggled to find new doctors who would take Medicare patients (but their long-term primary care docs were fine). But they were never deprived of any care they needed, with the out of pocket cost incredibly minimal.
