No session in the Rezko case today, the trial will resume on Monday. The Chicago Tribune is running "gavel-to-gavel" coverage, and from their handy summation of yesterday's testimony we learned that according to a review of Governor Blagojevich's computer files Rezko raised $1.4 million for Blago, nearly three times what has been publicly acknowledged.

We also learned that Mr. Rezko, who had no official position in government whatsoever, sat in on strategy meetings with the Governor and his staff and on job interviews for government positions.

What does all this mean for Obama, who is obviously connected to Rezko but hasn't been accused of any wrongdoing? Not much, yet. The fact that Blagojevich provided such ridiculous access to his second largest fundraiser doesn't mean Obama did the same.

But to the extent the trial reveals - or, perhaps I should say, confirms - to the public the inner workings of a political system awash in money, access, and influence, people could easily be led to draw analogous conclusions about Rezko and Obama's relationship. And those conclusions will be reinforced by the knowledge that Rezko helped Obama get a sweetheart deal on a house.

So the potential damage to Obama from the Rezko trial is obvious. And the trial is sure to continue for the next few weeks at least, providing plenty of fodder and an unpleasant backdrop for Obama as he seeks to lock down the Democratic nomination
