Here is the official release.By plan "B" I mean not changing the lake decision but other operating alternatives.Elsewhere or where does the equipment go when the south ore body is exhausted? Does the B.C. gov have incentives or alternatives(Government MLA up here makes no secret that there will be new mines up here) How? What does NGX intend to focus on... Young Davidson or more expansion in Aussie land? Many potential ore bodies in this area will they all get stopped over tailings disposal? Lot of questions and pressure now with spring coming for the B.C. gov. and what was(is) going to be spent up this way this summer.

Northgate's Kemess gets official thumbs-down from gov't

2008-03-07 21:50 ET - News Release

Ms. Keren Yun reports

FEDERAL AND PROVINCIAL ENVIRONMENTAL MINISTERS ANNOUNCE FINAL DECISION ON NORTHGATE'S KEMESS NORTH PROJECT

Both the federal Ministry of Environment and the British Columbia Ministry of Environment have decided to accept the recommendation report from the joint federal-provincial environmental review panel for Northgate Minerals Corp.'s Kemess North project, in which the panel recommended that the project not be allowed to proceed in its present form. The decision will have no effect on Northgate's financial performance in 2008 as the company wrote off the full carrying value of its investment in the Kemess North project in the third quarter of 2007 after the panel submitted its recommendation report on Sept. 17, 2007 (see Stockwatch news on that date).

Details of the final decision on the Kemess North project can be found on the websites of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency and the B.C. Environmental Assessment Office.
