A comment about liver cancer, a most horrible disease.

A decent segment of the population (1 in 300-400) has a condition known as hemochromatosis. It is a genetic disease that results in iron overload. Put simply, the body does not metabolize iron. Rather, the iron accumulates in the liver and ultimately can cause cancer. Many people do not know they have this condition.

It is what caused my father-in-law's liver cancer.

The treatment is quite simple - keep iron deposits low by way of phlebotomies. In short, bleeding oneself. My wife does this to keep her iron levels down.
