i really don't understand the hybrids... most that i have researched simply do not provide enough fuel efficiency to justify the extra cost Have to agree. Here in SV we have probably more hybrids per thousand people than anywhere. My take is, they're mainly a feel-good thing... a badge of greenness for people wth money to burn. Personally I drive a 1996 Civic HX and get 35mpg in mixed driving. Far more economical and green than a hybrid, allowing for depreciation and the environmental cost of manufacturing. Very pleasant car to drive. The next car will be a reasonably priced plug-in hybrid with an all-electric range of at least 30 miles. Doesn't exist yet, but the Civic is only 12 years old, so no rush.
